{"id":3776,"date":"2017-01-30T20:22:44","date_gmt":"2017-01-30T20:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zdvo.org\/unkategorisiert\/a-very-special-homage-to-zahal-disabled-veterans\/"},"modified":"2017-01-30T20:22:44","modified_gmt":"2017-01-30T20:22:44","slug":"a-very-special-homage-to-zahal-disabled-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zdvo.org\/de\/a-very-special-homage-to-zahal-disabled-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"A Very Special Homage to Zahal Disabled Veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a moving ceremony which took place yesterday at Tel Aviv\u2019s Beit Halochem, 160 members of the ZDVO were the happy recipients of a motorized scooter, donated by Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson through the Friends of the ZDVO in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scooter is my legs, it is what will enable me after many difficult years, to be mobile with ease, over long distances, something that until today was almost impossible for me to do\u201d, said 53 yr. old Nissim Ben Shabat, a combatant wounded in the First Lebanon War (1982) when the headquarters building of the IDF in the City of Tyre collapsed. Amongst the recipients was former 43 yr. old Border Policeman Roni Gozlan, who lost both his legs when in 2002 he threw himself on a terrorist who then blew himself up. The youngest veteran to receive a motorized scooter is 38 yrs., the oldest is 90 yrs.<\/p>\n<p>The Adelsons visited Tel Aviv\u2019s Beit Halochem six months ago when they attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Hydrotherapy Pool generously donated by them. It was during this visit that they made up their minds to find a way to help disabled veterans with mobility difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of Friends of the ZDVO in Israel Major General (res.)
